It's the largest hospital in Indiana and Indianapolis's largest trauma center — a Level I academic hub with more than 100 ICU beds, where complex trauma, transplant, and cardiovascular cases land.

A nationally recognized transplant program (including lung and heart transplant), advanced heart-failure care (LVAD, ECMO), cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, and a Comprehensive Stroke Center.

It's Magnet-recognized for nursing and serves as the teaching hospital of the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Currently Cerner (Oracle Health); IU Health has selected Epic with go-live planned for mid-2027, so travelers on assignment now would chart in Cerner.

It houses the Indiana Poison Center — the state's only regional poison-control center — which adds toxicology cases alongside its trauma, transplant, and neurocritical-care volume.
